It’s one day down and one to go at this year’s Toys for Tots distribution at St. James United Methodist Church in Danville. Today’s distribution (Tues Dec 20th) runs until 4:30 PM. Tomorrow morning’s distribution FOR FAMILIES SIGNED UP (Wed Dec 21st) will run from 8 AM to 11:30 AM.
Megan Montgomery, who coordinates the Toys for Tots effort for Vermilion County, IL; as well as Fountain and Warren Counties in Indiana; says this year’s need level was up; but unfortunately, donations went down.
The team of volunteers at Tuesday’s Toys for Tots distribution included members of Salt Fork High School’s FFA (Future Farmers of America) chapter.
AUDIO: Sign ups were significantly larger, donations were significantly less. Yes, we have way more kids signed up.
But on the positive side, a final family sign-up session last week at the Danville Public Library was very effective.
AUDIO: It was huge. We had almost 200 kids registered in two hours. We haven’t had all those people calling or texting or e-mailing, asking for help, because they were given that last minute opportunity to sign up.
Toys for Tots has run out of stuffed animals to give away, so if anyone has any they could donate for Wednesday morning’s session, please drop them off at the start of the distribution, around 8 AM, at St. James United Methodist Church.
