It all begins Friday evening, January 13th; the return of the Vermilion County Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament to Danville Area Community College’s Dick Shockey Court at Mary Miller Gymnasium. For DACC Athletic Director Tim Bunton it’s a busy time, but a fun time. You have all the DACC Jaguar teams playing and practicing, not to mention yet another NCAA Division II Junior College Basketball Tournament just a couple of months away.
AUDIO: Baseball was in there this morning, basketball’s in there in and out. And they know it’s going to be a crazy one next week. But at the same time we’re excited to have the young people in our county; athletes, cheerleaders, brothers, sisters, families come out to our campus and our facilities. And Brian Hensgen’s done a great job leading the charge.

In its return to DACC’s Dick Shockey Court/Mary Miller Gymnasium, the Vermilion County Boys and Girls Basketball Tournament will run from January 13th through January 21st.
Speaking of DACC Assistant Vice-President of Student Services Brian Hensgen, you can hear his recent interview with Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN by going to https://vermilioncountyfirst.com/dacc-radio-show-on-demand/
Tim Bunton says with all the updates made to Mary Miller gymnasium over the past year, it will be great to have so many Vermilion County families visiting for the tournament, including, of course, some possible future Danville Area Community College students.
AUDIO: We’ve got the great support of our upper administration in doing some things. The new press box area is really nice, so we’re excited about that; along with the video board that we opened with last year at the national tournament. So the facility looks great; we’ve had some compliments. We are extremely excited to have the county basketball tournament at DACC.
The first girls game, at 5 PM Friday evening the 13th, will be Georgetown-Ridge Farm versus Westville. The first boys game, at 3:45 PM Saturday the 14th, will be Hoopeston Area versus Georgetown-Ridge Farm. There’s also the cheerleading competition going throughout the day Saturday the 14th. The girls basketball champ will be decided Friday evening, the 20th; with the boys champion decided Saturday evening the 21st.
