Illinois House 104th District State Rep Mike Marron has been named Republican Minority Leader in the new General Assembly. He says, yes, the Democrats still have a super-majority in both houses in Springfield, but he’s very glad to take on this position and help guide the ship on when to play offense and when to play defense.
AUDIO: It is a challenge, especially with those numbers. But it’s an honor to be selected. I appreciate the trust that leader McCombie has in me.
Tony McCombie is now House Minority Leader, having taken over for the resigned Jim Durkin. The Illinois House is now off until the end of the month, but Marron says, he’ll be keeping busy.
AUDIO: I can’t do a good job of representing the people in the district if I’m not meeting with the people in the district. So we’re going to take the opportunity in the next couple weeks to get out there and talk to people.
Marron says one meeting he’s already had concerned high energy costs, and what programs are available to help. As Marron has previously stated, that’s a major goal he has for the next legislative session.
AUDIO: Something that I’m hearing from a lot of constituents, both citizens and residents of the district, but also business owners. And that’s a great concern, the increase in utility costs. It’s definitely one of my priorities, something we’re going to be working on; trying to help bring the costs of energy down for everybody, within the district and within the state. So that’s definitely as are where we’re going to be playing offense.
The Illinois House will be back in session on January 31st.
