Jacob Lane is hanging on to his hopes to be a third candidate for Mayor of Danville in the upcoming April 4th election. On Thursday, January 19th; his “petition for judicial review” is scheduled to be heard at the Vermilion County Courthouse.
Danville’s Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr had filed a complaint with the Danville Election Commission saying that Lane did not have the required 225 legitimate signatures on his election petition because seven were from individuals outside the Danville City Limits, and 15 were from individuals not registered to vote in the Danville Municipal Election.
The Danville Election Commission agreed with this, and ruled in December that Jacob Lane, a local political consultant and free lance journalist, was off the ballot. Lane says the main point of his “petition for judicial review” is how the Danville Election Commission itself conducts business.
AUDIO: If they’re expecting a candidate, whether it’s me or anyone else, to follow the law; they need to follow the law to a “T” as well. The agenda for their meeting on the (Dec) 14th was not posted on their website 48 hours in advance. I was denied due process in the sense that I received literally zero notifications of the meeting on the (Dec) 14th. I did receive notifications for the meeting on the (Dec) 21st; but nothing about the (Dec) 14th, where they took the action to remove me from the ballot.
Thursday morning’s session at the Vermilion County Courthouse is set for 11:30 AM. The two Danville mayoral candidates on the April 4th ballot at this time are incumbent Rickey Williams, Jr; and Vermilion Housing Authority Executive Director Jackie Vinson.
