SPRINGFIELD – As the new General Assembly begins its work in earnest in Springfield, 102nd District State Representative Adam Niemerg (R-Dieterich) announced this week he has been named to serve on the Illinois Legislative Audit Commission. Niemerg is serving his second term as State Representative.
“I am grateful to House Republican Leader Tony McCombie for appointing me to serve on the Legislative Audit Commission. This commission oversees the audits of state agencies, which under Governor JB Pritzker, have been an absolute mess,” Niemerg said. “As a member of this commission, I will have access to information on how state agencies are falling short, and have the unique opportunity to offer solutions on how we can make Illinois government work better for taxpayers. Our citizens deserve a conservative and fiscally responsible voice at the table.”
The Legislative Audit Commission consists of 12 legislators appointed by the General Assembly leadership and is equally apportioned between Illinois House and Senate Republicans and Democrats.
The Legislative Audit Commission is mandated by law to review all audits conducted by the Auditor General of the State of Illinois. The Commission’s primary responsibilities include:
Hold public hearings on all major audits of State agencies to review problems, assess agency stewardship, and secure remedial action.
Initiation and review of management and program audits and investigations.
Make recommendations to the General Assembly and agency management for corrective legislation and other measures to remedy weaknesses disclosed through audits or at Commission hearings.
Monitoring agency progress in implementing corrective action.
