The Midwest Classic Show Choir competition came to Danville High School this weekend (Feb 3rd-4th); meaning lots of out of town visitors, lots of parked cars, and loads of singing and dancing students. Neuhoff Media’s Scott Eisenhauer served as emcee.
Unity High School from Tolono, IL takes their turn on the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium stage.
District 118 Fine Arts Facilitator Brian Klett spoke with us while he was outside for a breath of fresh air. He said the positive feedback he was getting from visiting families for a great show and smooth event made him proud to be part of Danville.
AUDIO: Yes, it sure does. It’s great seeing all the different schools here and all the kids performing.

One parent who loved the entire atmosphere was Christie from Springfield. She told us it was great to have the audience loudly cheering all schools.
AUDIO: Absolutely amazing; it’s wonderful. My son’s from Springfield, and he just performed, and it was awesome. (Steve) And of course, the way we have the reaction of the crowd, everybody’s supporting everybody here, right? Absolutely, it’s one big show choir family.
Some students from Highland High School especially enjoyed the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium upgrades.
AUDIO: We performed a while ago, about 9 o’clock this morning. (Steve: How’s you feel on our stage, how’d it go?) I think it went really well. We had a lot of fun. We really liked the lights and stuff; that was a really fun addition. And it’s just been really nice here.
Mount Zion Swingstation was the grand champion in High School Tier 1 competition. Mount Zion Les Femme took the top spot in High School Tier 2. The High School Grand Champion Soloist was Holly Diamond from Highland High School.
The Midwest Classic at Danville High School kicked off Friday evening with the junior high/middle school competition. Mount Zion Sound System was the Middle School grand champion, while the middle school grand champion soloist was Cam Leecock from Franklin Middle School.
As the host, Danville groups performed in exhibition and not competition.
