A special Super Bowl Sunday double-header is happening at Saint James United Methodist Church. As Abby Carlton explained to us, they’re looking to rebuild the youth program at St. James. And one way to do that get them involved in something unique. So this Sunday, teens from the church will be preparing a special Super Bowl Sunday meal for the community. Carlton says teens from all over the community are invited to stop by and help.
AUDIO: What we’re going to do is, the teens are going to come at 3 o’clock and prepare soup for families that want to come in. It can be anyone from the congregation; it could be anyone from the community that wants to come in that needs a warm meal. It’s kind of open to anybody. All we ask is that if you can just let me know; call the church office and let somebody know; just so we can kind of get a rough head count.

By 6 PM, they will be into “game time” and “dinner time.” But about an hour before that, it’s a 5 PM Valentine’s party in another part of the church.
AUDIO: And Nancy Henderson, our children’s director, is going to be running that; with our elementary age kiddos, Kids for Christ; so they’re going to be doing some different Valentine’s Day activities. And then at 6 o’clock we will start our meal, and have the football game running on the big screen.
The dinner will be served in the St. James gym, and there will be games going on for youngsters during the Super Bowl as well. If you’d like to attend, or participate in preparing the meal; call the St. James office at 217-442-1504. That’s St. James United Methodist Church at 504 North Vermilion.
