REPORTS HAVE INDICATED THAT THE SUSPECT WAS BEING PURSUED FOR DRIVING AN ALLEGEDLY STOLEN VEHICLE; AND SUSTAINED AN OFFICER RELATED SHOOTING THAT IS BEING INVESTIGATED. THIS IDENTIFICATION REPORT IS FROM THE CHAMPAIGN COUNTY CORONER’S OFFICE:
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup is releasing the identity of the male involved in a shooting incident in Rantoul, Illinois on the night of February 6, 2023.
Twenty-one-year-old, Azaan Lee of Champaign, Illinois, formerly of Chicago, was pronounced dead at 12:17AM on February 7, 2023 in the Carle Foundation Hospital Emergency Department located in Urbana, Illinois. Preliminary resultsfrom an autopsy conducted today at the Champaign County Regional Autopsy Facility indicate Mr. Lee died from a gunshot wound to the left leg that perforated the left femoral artery. This shooting is under investigation by Illinois State Police,
and the coroner’s office.
