THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY MUSEUM SOCIETY RELEASE
The Vermilion County Museum Society is celebrating Abraham Lincoln’s 214th birthday with an open house, sponsored by Judy K. Myers and Jonathan A. Myers, The Myers Group, Morgan Stanley, on Sunday, February 12, 2023, from 1:30 to 4:00 PM, in the Museum Center at 116 N. Gilbert St., Danville, IL. Additional donors for this event include McDonalds, Illini Skateland, and County Market North.
The Lincoln birthday card entries will be on display in the Center building and light refreshments will be offered. Presentation of the Lincoln Birthday Card awards will begin at 3:00 PM.
Museum Executive Director Sue Richter recently told Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection program that yes, COVID slowed down the Lincoln celebrations for a while. But they are coming back strongly.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: With COVID we actually missed, from 2020 and 2021, being able to celebrate this. So we’re really, really happy to be able to do it again. Because it’s our one event that actually allows students, especially 4th and 5th grade students from all over the county, to became involved in making a birthday card for Abraham Lincoln. We still have 392 student cards this year, which I think is just wonderful.
The Fithian Home will also be open for viewing during the open house, and there is no admission charge for either building. Parking is available in the Museum lot, at Auto-Mobile Diagnostics, and in the Carle lot.
Updates for the event will be posted on our Facebook page and, for additional information, call the Museum at 442-2922 during regular business hours for Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, or visit our website at www.vermilioncountymuseum.org.
