Once again, Danville’s VA Illiana Health Care Medical Center is using the week of Valentine’s Day to provide a weeklong commemoration for Veterans. This National Salute to Service in mid-February goes back to 1978. The Danville VA Medical Center’s Chief of the Center for Development and Civic Engagement Jennifer Sheehan-Wells gives us a look at just some of the items scheduled for throughout this week.
AUDIO: We are welcoming a few guests to pass out valentines. The valentines were created by local school age children. We are bringing in Gross’ Burgers as a special lunch that’s provided by the Marine Corps League. And we are taking a group of our Veterans to the Fischer Theater for a special movie showing.
Meanwhile, just a couple weeks ago the VA Illiana Health Care Medical Center kicked off their one year celebration of its 125th year, having served our Veterans since 1898. Jennifer Sheehan-Wells says, that’s only just begun; with something happening every month.
AUDIO: Our Community Engagement Service is taking on that task. So there’s going to be an event of some sort, some level, throughout the year. Some are going to be bigger than others, and hopefully we’ll have some bigger news to share later down the road about some other activities.
The 125th birthday kicked off with a big cupcake event for Veterans and staff a couple of weeks ago.
