A Vermillion County Indiana Sheriff’s Deputy is recovering after being shot Friday evening near Dana. The deputy had responded to the area because of a high-speed chase that began in Danville (Illinois). Officers were in pursuit of a suspect wanted for attempted homicide.
The pursuit went out Perrysville Road in Danville and entered Vermillion County, Indiana on State Road 32 and then went south on State Road 63. The chase passed through Newport and Dana before the suspect stopped at a residence south of Dana (in the area of State Road 71 and County Road 700 South).
Vermillion County Indiana Sheriff’s Police say the suspect exited his vehicle and exchanged gunfire with deputies. Vermillion County Deputy Joey Wilson was shot in the leg and foot. He was transported to Union Hospital in Terre Haute where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Officers from several departments were on hand as the suspect was located in a barn. The suspect was shot by officers after he was able to get a farm truck in the barn started and crashed through the barn towards officers. The suspect was apprehended and also taken to Union Hospital in Terre Haute in Clinton for treatment.
