THE FOLLOWING IS A STATE REP ADAM NIEMERG RELEASE
Dieterich, IL – Recently approved extreme pro-abortion policies have made Illinois the Abortion Capital of at least the Midwest and possibly the nation, a designation IL Freedom Caucus member Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dietrich) hopes to temper with some common-sense reforms.
“We have gone from simply making abortion legal and accessible in our state to becoming a state that actively promotes abortion,” Niemerg said. “There does not seem to be any restrictions on abortion the far left in Illinois will accept. It is time to dial it back and implement safeguards to protect the mother and child. That is what my package of bills accomplishes.”
Specifically, Niemerg has introduced legislation to:
· Reinstate of parental notification for abortions performed on minors (HB2175)
· Repeal the Reproductive Health Act (HB 2606)
· Protect babies born alive in abortion procedures (HB2177)
· Require a 72-hour waiting period and medical consultation before an abortion (HB 2181)
· Require ultrasounds to be offered to women seeking an abortion (HB2182)
· Recognize the personhood of babies born alive during an abortion (HB 2185)
· Provide an income tax credit for donations to qualifying pregnancy resource centers (HB 2600)
· Make it illegal to compel a woman to have an abortion (HB 2590)
“Abortion is not the same thing as having gallbladder surgery, and it is time to stop pretending it is,” Niemerg said. “It is time we demonstrated a modicum of humanity and recognized that while Illinois may continue to allow access to abortion – it does not mean parents should be kept in the dark about what their daughters are doing or that sex traffickers should be allowed to come to Illinois and force girls to have abortions. It also does not mean that we should allow the barbaric practice of partial-birth abortion or withhold basic care to babies born alive in botched abortions. Instead, it is time we as a state displayed some humanity and provided some protections for women and unborn children.”
None of the legislation in Rep. Niemerg’s bill package has been assigned to a legislative committee.
