The Danville District 118 School Board has approved $10.6 million dollars for the expansion and renovation of Northeast Elementary Magnet School. During a special meeting Friday (March 10th) the board voted unanimously to accept the bid from English Brothers out of Champaign. Board members Darlene Halloran and Elder Tyson Parks were absent. Building and Grounds assistant Seth Oldfield says this is work that’s been needed for quite some time and is long overdue.
AUDIO: So there will be a new gymnasium, a stage and collaboration room, a couple of new classrooms, and new rest rooms.
Board president Dr. Randall Ashton agreed that this has been needed for a while.
AUDIO: We’ve needed this for years. Ever since Northeast opened; expansion of the gym and the facilities for the students has been needed. So it’s really a long time coming; and I’m glad we’re going to be able to do it.
Oldfield says that after the first construction meeting within a couple weeks, a targeted completion date will be established.
