Danville Area Community College hosted their annual legislative breakfast this past Monday morning (March 13th). DACC president Dr. Stephen Nacco said afterwards that State Senator Paul Faraci’s replacement of the late Scott Bennett is a great thing for DACC, because they already were quite acquainted with Faraci.
AUDIO: Who’s been involved with DACC for at least seven years with our labor management, in his role as the assistant to Treasurer Mike Frerichs. Paul Faraci understands community colleges, he understands labor management, he understands the area.
State Rep Mike Marron talked about hope for community college concerns; such as infrastructure work, as well as additional funding for the Monetary Award Program, helping students that quality get some help to attend a community college.
AUDIO: It’s my understanding that, yes, we’ll probably see an increase in funding for that program, in the upcoming budget as proposed by the governor. We haven’t seen the final product in the state budget that we’ll be voting on in May, but I would fully expect to see some increased funding for infrastructure, for buildings, capital projects; at places like Danville Area Community College.

Dr. Nacco said conversation about students’ mental health came up, led by a DACC Board member from Danville District 118.
AUDIO: And Principal Cherry, who’s a board member, mentioned that, in terms of Danville High School; what’s being done for mental health. And DACC’s head of counseling, Stephanie Potts, talked about it from our end.
The DACC Board of Trustees monthly meeting will be this Thursday (March 16th) evening at 5:30.
