The jobs picture for Vermilion County and the City of Danville fell backwards from the month of December to the month of January; although showing better numbers compared to January of last year.
In Vermilion County, the unemployment rate increased from 4.8% in December to 5.7% in January. Vermilion County’s rate stood at 6.2% in January of 2022.
The City of Danville’s jobs outlook fell back as well, with the unemployment rate increasing from 5.3% in December to 5.9% in January. Danville’s rate in January of 2022 was 6.1%.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment did show an increase of 400 jobs overall when comparing January of 2023 with January of 2022. Looking at more specific categories; a gain of 200 jobs was reported in Manufacturing, while gains of 100 jobs were reported in Educational and Health Services, Transportation-Warehousing-Utilities, Government, Wholesale Trade, and Leisure and Hospitality. The Professional Business Services sector showed a drop of 300 jobs from January of 2022 to 2023.
