THE FOLLOWING IS A WESTVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RELEASE
At approximately 12:25 a.m. today (Sat March 18th), Westville Police Department was dispatched to 312 S. State St. in Westville for a report of shots fired in the area. The location of the call is a parking lot directly across IL. Rt. 1 from Sophia Stefani’s Tavern. While responding, a Westville officer witnessed a vehicle leaving the parking lot at a high rate of speed with no lights on and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle fled from the officer and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued North on IL Rt. 1 into Tilton, eventually ending when the vehicle lost control while attempting to negotiate the entrance ramp onto I74 Eastbound. The vehicle came to a rest in the ditch and the occupants fled, but were apprehended by officers and firearms were recovered.
A short time later, officers were notified that a vehicle had arrived at the Village Pantry gas station in Georgetown, IL containing at least two subjects with gunshot wounds, possibly stemming from the incident at 312 S. State. The subjects were transported to a local hospital, their condition is unknown at this time.
It is unknown at this time if the vehicle involved in the pursuit was involved in the shooting incident.
Westville Police Department is currently investigating these incident’s with assistance from Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department, and Illinois State Police.
