Thursday afternoon is the scheduled time for the groundbreaking in Tilton, for the Parkway cannabis dispensary on the east side of Georgetown Road, in front of True Grit Fitness.
Tilton mayor David Phillips, Sr says originally Tilton was eyeing a possible cannabis growth facility at this location. Then, he says they had their eye on Parkway Dispensaries Group even before Danville turned them down. And now, Parkway is coming, AND he says they’re planning an eventual growth facility on site as well. The mayor says he has an estimate of what Tilton will bring in, and what Parkway will bring in per year.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: It’ll bring probably about $900,000 a year. They’re figuring they’ll probably do $15,000,000 a year.
Another thing planned on site is a consumption lounge, but Mayor Phillips says you will need to be not only of age but also a member to be able to use it. It won’t be a case of just anyone coming in off the streets.
Speaking of a consumption lounge, the Seven Point of Illinois dispensary is already approved by the Danville City Council and still planned for the west side of Lynch Road. But when Seven Point CEO Brad Zerman asked the Danville City Council if a consumption lounge could be added to the plans, he was turned down. Danville, of course, already has the Sunnyside Dispensary operating on the east side of Lynch Road. But the Danville City Council turned down Parkway Dispensaries, with the sentiment among some that another dispensary was simply not a good idea. Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says he is not surprised Parkway ended up in Tilton, because he knew they wanted to do business in this area.

The groundbreaking on Thursday is set for 2 PM.
