It was close all the way to the end, with Danville’s incumbent mayor Rickey Williams, Jr defeating challenger Jackie Vinson by a final tally of 2,235 votes to 2,176 votes; a difference of just 59.
Afterwards, Mayor Williams was grateful.

Jackie Vinson said the campaign was a great experience, and she met some wonderful people.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: And the fact that this was such a close election shows that the people want to be heard. That they were in line with the request that is our government needs to work for the people, and it needs to put our people first.
Elsewhere in the City of Danville, Treasurer Careth Klewicki was defeated by challenger Chris Heeren 3,009 to 1,161 votes.
There are two changes on the Danville City Council; in Ward Six Jon Cooper was the winner, defeating incumbent Ethan Burt 522 to 318 votes. And in Ward 1, Jackie Vinson supporter and Three Kings of Peace member Ed Butler was the winner, defeating incumbent Alesia Ford 176 to 162 votes.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Well I owe my allegiance there to my people, to help them within my ward. That’s why I ran. My people had concerns, and I will do my best to do what I can to represent my people.
Mayor Williams says, there will be an orientation for those newly elected to the City Council, and they’ll be ready to get to work.
