It has been a perfect week weather wise for farmers to do field work and get closer to planting their 2023 crop. But the Vermilion County Farm Bureau’s Tom Fricke says if you are from the Ag community please consider the 5:30 PM Thursday (April 13th) meeting at Danville Area Community College concerning broadband internet service. Fricke says, as we really learned during the pandemic, everyone should have the best, modern internet service possible. So this is your chance to talk about your area and your needs.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: If the kids are out of school for some reason and they need to be able to do their schoolwork. Many farms are selling direct from the farm now, so they need access to their internet business website so they can take orders from customers and that sort of thing. So reliable broadband service is a necessity and needs to be available to everyone, not just those in cities where it’s easy for the utility companies to make that available.
Meanwhile, with this week’s wonderful weather, Vermilion County farmers are looking to get as much done as they’d like. As Fricke explains, some like to plant early if they can, and some prefer to wait just a while.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: As the equipment technology has improved, and the ability to be able to go later in the evening with the size of the equipment, it doesn’t take long to get the crop in the ground anymore. Hopefully, that activity keeps moving forward. And then, once it’s all in the ground, we’ll get a little shower to get all the seeds started.
Once again, that broadband internet access meeting with the Illinois Office of Broadband will be in Room 306 at DACC’s Vermilion Hall, 5:30 to 6:30 PM Thursday, April 13th.
