This coming Monday April 24th at the Masonic Temple on North Street in Danville, the Children’s Dyslexia Center is having their fundraiser chicken and noodles meal. They’ll be serving both lunch and dinner; $10 each, $5 for ages 2 to 6. Mashed potatoes, vegetable, bread, drink and dessert all included. Danville Alderman Rick Strebing is a director for the Dyslexia Center, and he talked about the difference the center can make with what their teachers do in classes at the Masonic Temple.
AUDIO: They are trained in a special way. They work for their certificate for a year, and then we start paying them on an hourly wage after they get their certificate. Like I said, we’ve helped about 200 – 250 kids in the last ten years. It’s really something to see when the kids come in. At first they don’t want to talk; don’t want to work up. And then after about three to four weeks they come running into the classroom because they’re actually getting some help.
Strebing says they can help kids anywhere from grades 1 to 12. Serving times at the Masonic Temple this coming Monday will be 11 to 2 for lunch, and 4 to 7 for dinner.
