Three newly sworn in Danville Probationary Police Officers will soon be on their way to training at the Illinois State Police Academy. Richard Robinson, Brandon Williams, and Jared Cornwell were all sworn in Wednesday (May 3rd) morning by Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr.
Christopher Yates has been Danville Police Chief for four years, and started with 54 officers. His long time goal has been to reach 70, and these three new ones will make it 67. The chief says, as new ones arrived, there’s always some retiring or leaving; so it’s been a long climb, with a bit more to go.
AUDIO: In my head, if I’m looking for 70, I’m aiming at 72 or 73 to get to that 70. We’ve got a pretty good list compiling right now for the next group, and hopefully we’ll get to 70 or possibly exceed it.
Mayor Williams says it’s great to see top individuals interested in Danville police work.
AUDIO: I’m really proud of the quality of the candidates that we have. They have excellent achievement records and good character, and those are two things that are critical in folks that are going to be serving the community.
Probationary Officers Robinson, Williams, and Cornwell will spend 16 weeks training at the state academy, and then will undergo 16 weeks training with the Danville Police Department.
