AM radio is important for millions of Americans. More than 80 million people rely on AM radio for news, traffic, weather, sports, and to stay connected to their communities. It’s no wonder that nearly 90% of car buyers believe that AM/FM radios should be standard in every car.
Despite AM radio’s popularity, some carmakers are starting to phase it out in new vehicles. That’s why Neuhoff Media is working with the National Association of Broadcasters to protect AM radio’s accessibility.
Here are just a few reasons why AM radio is so important:
- It’s dependable and free, with no subscription or data required.
- It has a long reach, covering a much larger area than cell phone towers, making it accessible to people in rural or remote areas.
- It continues to function during power outages, natural disasters, or other emergencies, providing critical updates and information to the public.
- It can broadcast emergency information in multiple languages, ensuring that everyone can stay safe.
- It’s a crucial source of information during times of crisis, with many stations serving as Primary Entry Points (PEPs) with a direct connection to FEMA and the National Weather Service (NWS).
- It provides more detailed information than wireless alerts, including how to stay safe, when the storm will pass, or where to find help.
- It doesn’t require listeners to opt-in or sign up for alerts, so everyone can receive vital information.
- It provides a human touch, with real people on the line to help during emergencies.
