On an absolutely beautiful Wednesday (May 10th) morning, Balloons Over Vermilion stopped by the Schlarman Academy South Campus for the annual Balloons in the Classroom session with this year’s BOV Ambassador Class and their entire school. It was outside at Voorhees and North Vermilion, with the big, inflated balloon on the ground taking up much of the parking lot. Shelley Erickson, teacher of the lucky third grade class for this July’s Balloons Over Vermilion, was thrilled to see the whole school get so involved.
AUDIO: A lot of kids had some idea, they were really excited this morning. And a lot of the teachers were very enthusiastic; pre-K was super excited about it. And I’ve seen all these kids’ faces; and it makes me happy and it makes the kids excited.
For Balloons Over Vermilion’s Jim Anderson, this is something special that never gets old; he says it’s wonderful to have the entire school’s curiosity join in with the BOV Ambassador Class.
AUDIO: I think we’re well on our way to a million smiles, between the traffic on Vermilion and the kids here; and we’ve worked with Ms. Erickson. Quite honestly, I think a number of the other classes here at Schlarman Academy have built some of their curricula of the second semester around hot air ballooning, so that’s great to see.
This year’s Balloons Over Vermilion at Vermilion Regional Airport is the weekend of July 7th and 8th.
