The overall jobs outlook for Vermilion County continued to improve from the month of March to the month of April.
Vermilion County’s unemployment rate fell back again, this time from 5.4% in March to 5.0% in April. Vermilion County’s rate stood at 4.9% in April of 2022.
The City of Danville’s jobs picture, however, went a bit in the negative direction; with the unemployment rate increasing from 5.7% in March to 5.9% in April. Danville’s rate in April of 2022 was 4.9%.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase of 400 jobs overall, when comparing April of 2023 with April of 2022. In looking at more specific categories, Government jobs were up by 300; while gains of 100 jobs were all found in Manufacturing, Wholesale Trade, Transportation-Warehousing-and Utilities, Educational and Health Services, and Leisure and Hospitality. However, a drop of 400 jobs from a year ago was reported in Professional Business Services.
