(ABOVE) 2022 Vermilion County Fair Queen Naomi Dolan poses with D102’s Tommy B during her appearance on The Big Show.
The Vermilion County Fair gets underway Tuesday, June 6th; and runs through Saturday, June 10th. Last year’s fair queen, Naomi Dolan, joined Tommy B on D102’s The Big Show, talking about what this past year has meant to her.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: One of my favorite things, actually, was getting to tour the different fairs in the area. So I went to a total of, I think, eleven different pageants across; I had a couple in Vermilion County, but I went all the way over to Logan County, Boone County, Coles County; went over to Springfield for the State Fair; and then obviously for the state pageant as well.
Fair Board member Morgan Estelle also appeared on The Big Show, telling Tommy B that Dolan’s run as queen has been amazing.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: (Naomi), from the minute she was crowned, has hit the ground running. If there has been an event in our community, she has been there. She has represented well. She has been a truly amazing queen. She has represented the fair, the pageant, the community.
And Tuesday night, we will find out who the new Vermilion County Fair Queen is. There will also be the Little Miss and Junior Miss pageants; all beginning at the grandstands at 6 PM.
Meanwhile, remember the seven dollar admission fee gives everyone complete access to the carnival rides while you’re at the fair. And as Morgan Estelle reminded us on The Big Show, much more comes with the admission fee.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: That includes free face painting. New this year with JumpOff Danville we have bounce houses, a bungee run, a blow up slide; really an obstacle course of bounce houses geared towards toddlers all the way through adults. And your ticket to get in also ensures that you are entered for one of the bikes given away at the end of the night if you are still there.
Keep in mind this year’s schedule includes the new remote control racing at the grandstand at 6 PM Thursday, the barnyard tractor pull at 5 PM Friday, and the demolition derby at 3 PM Saturday.
Also; when Dolan; along with Fair Board members Ashley Drake and Nikki Duffy; joined Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection; Nikki explained that in memory of a long time fair volunteer who passed away last fall, a traditional attraction has now become the Mary Alice Ag Discovery Zone.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: What used to be called the Hospitality Barn, which is Ag activities centered around the younger crowd. They’re geared more towards smaller children, smaller hands; when they need a break from the carnival and all of that.
