Danville’s Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr stated while recently on Laura Williams’ Community Connection program on 1490 WDAN that one thing he is thrilled about when it comes to the new Golden Nugget Casino is that it looks just as good live as it did on paper.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Sometimes people make a proposal, but then what they propose looks nothing like it. In this case, I’m proud to say that the concept design of the Golden Nugget, Danville; and the actual Golden Nugget Danville Casino look nearly exactly alike. It’s high end; it’s classy.
Mayor Williams also reminded everyone of the commitments made by the Wilmot family to make significant contributions within the Danville area.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: A million dollars that’s already been given to us for our riverfront development. Hopefully, that will be in design by this fall, and hopefully in place by this time next year. A million dollar expansion of the Boys and Girls Club. A million dollars for municipal improvements; our building needs a lot of work here at City Hall. $600,000 to upgrade a sewer connection out in the area where the casino is built; so that it can not only accommodate the casino appropriately, but even more development in that area.
And, with a state mandate that Danville have their police and firefighter pensions 90% funded by 2040; Mayor Williams says six to eight million dollars in projected annual casino revenue, about 10 to 12% of the city’s approximate $60 million annual budget, will provide a huge assist.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: We are going to be putting 90%, this year, of the money that we receive from the casino, directly towards extra pension payments. We anticipate that to be about $5 million. We believe, that within the next 12 to 15 years, that we could actually be fully funded.
