THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE DANS RELEASE
DANVILLE, IL – Although he didn’t get into the lineup during his first series with the Reds over the weekend, Ricky Karcher made his MLB debut count. Last night, Karcher came into the game in the 10th inning with his Cincinnati Reds leading 5-4 and a runner on second base. But the Danville Dan persevered and record his first save in his first game as a big leaguer.
Karcher becomes the 33rd Danville Dan to wear a major league uniform and play in a game. He was part of the 2016 Dans roster, coming from the Michigan as a freshman. His sophomore year was at Walters State Community College in Tennessee, and the Reds drafted him in the 13th round in 2017.
He is the third player from the 2016 roster to make it to the majors, joining Josh Smith (Rangers) and Alfonso Rivas (Padres) as the fifth Dan currently playing MLB baseball (Bryan Baker-Orioles and Austin Nola-Padres are the others). He becomes the fifth player that has been coached by current Dans manager Eric Coleman to reach the majors.
“Once again, we’re excited to see another Dan making it to the majors,” said Dans managing partner Jeanie Cooke. “This shows that the work of the Dans coaching staff and players assisting these young men to improve their baseball acumen is what summer baseball is all about.”
A founding member of the Prospect League, one of the premier summer college leagues, the Dans are in their 35th season of wood-bat baseball. A list of other Danville Dans in the majors is available online at www.DanvilleDans.com.
