Republican State Rep Adam Niemerg stopped by Vermilion County on Tuesday (June 13th), as his district represents Southern Vermilion County, and includes portions of Lawrence, Coles, Effingham, and Champaign Counties as well.
Niemerg says coming out of the recent legislative session and budget negotiations, one of his biggest disappointments was no extension, as of yet, for the Invest in Kids Act.
AUDIO: Which is a tax credit program that costs the state nothing; for underprivileged youth to go to parochial schools. It’s a great school choice policy. That was not in this budget. But, unfortunately what was in this budget was $550 million for illegal immigrant health care.
Meanwhile, one passed bill that’s especially disturbing to Niemerg is Senate Bill 1909, which he feels unfairly targets pregnancy resource centers by giving the state attorney general permission to go after them under the Deceptive Business Practices Act. Niemerg says he argued against this on the House floor, asking what is deceptive about doing the work of the pro-life movement, and trying to find a way to save a life.
AUDIO: They would not give any answers. They would not give any examples. All I was told is it would be a case-by-case basis. So, in a state where there’s zero liability on behalf of abortion clinics who perform abortions, here we have the democrats saying; okay, it’s the pregnancy resource centers that will be defying the Deceptive Business Practices Act; which is absolutely horrible.
The recent Danville City Council vote, where Mayor Williams broke the tie, was designed to stop an abortion clinic from coming to the city by making it illegal to receive abortion tools or medications through the mail. But there was an amendment added to it prior to the vote, stating that the city ordinance does not take effect until a court rules in favor of it. But despite that amendment, Niemerg says that night was a victory for the pro-life movement.
AUDIO: We have an attorney general who has an agenda throughout the state of Illinois; and he’ll use his office and his attorneys. And we have a governor, with the same agenda; he’ll use his office and his attorneys. We’re standing at the base of Mount Everest, and we’re looking up. So, I want to say to everybody that voted in the right way for that particular measure, and to the mayor, thank you so much. It takes tremendous courage to stand there, with overwhelming odds, and do what’s right. And I say thank you for that.Niemerg represents the 102nd District in the Illinois House.
