A special golf outing at Harrison Park is coming up on Saturday, July 15th. The 3rd Annual Danville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 728 Golf Fundraiser will have two beneficiaries. Half of the proceeds will go to the post itself, and the other half will go to Mission K9 Warrior. As the VFW’s Jason Wills reminds us, the Mission K9 Warrior program provides specially trained dogs to help Veterans recover from stress related to serving in combat.
AUDIO: Each dog has a job, I should say. And each Vet is going to need a job done for a certain person. It helps get them; feel comfortable as they’re going to the store or going to a crowded place. Or just, when they’re waking up from a nightmare, the dog is there to calm them down.
Wills says when he got out of the military back in 2003, something like Mission K9 Warrior definitely would have been great for him.
AUDIO: We didn’t have that. I even searched, you know, “who has this, who do I contact?” There was nothing around here. And this is why to me it means so much to give back to them. Because I know it would have helped me out tremendously.
The entry fee is $80 per player. Just contact the Harrison Park Pro Shop at 217-431-2266. If you’d like information about sponsorships call 217-369-5046. Or go to facebook.com/VFWPost728.
