THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION VOLES RELEASE
The Vermilion Voles Vintage Base Ball Club will be hosting a special event at Kennekuk County Park on Saturday June 24. The Voles will be staging the Central Interstate League Invitational beginning at noon.
The Central Interstate League was an independent minor league baseball association that fielded clubs from Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa in the 1880s. The Danville Browns participated in 1888.

This Saturday the Voles will host the White River Base Ball Club, the Indianapolis Blues, and the Champaign Clippers in a series of matches that will demonstrate the evolving rules of ball playing circa 1886. In that era, pitching changed from underhand deliveries to overhand hurling, umpires called balls and strikes, base stealing was allowed, and players began to adopt the use of gloves on the field.
Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating at Saturday’s event. The fields are located off the Kennekuk County Park main road, across from the Ironwood Springs Boat Access parking area. Motley Food will be onsite with concessions for players and fans.
