The overall jobs outlook for Vermilion County dropped a bit from the month of April to the month of May. The City of Danville stayed the same, but both show numbers significantly worse compared to May of last year.
Vermilion County’s unemployment rate increased from five percent flat in April to 5.2% in May. Vermilion County’s rate stood at 4.7% in May of 2022.
The City of Danville’s May unemployment rate remained at 5.9%, where it also stood in April. However, Danville’s rate came in at 5.1% in May of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
Also in Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase of 200 jobs overall, when comparing May of 2023 with May of 2022. In looking at more specific categories, Government jobs were up by 400, while gains of 100 jobs were found in Transportation-Warehousing-and Utilities, as well as in construction. However, a drop of 100 jobs from a year ago was found in Manufacturing, and a drop of 300 jobs from a year ago was found in Professional Business Services.
