The City of Danville’s Community Day on Sunday afternoon (July 10th) had to be moved from the annual Lincoln Park location due to damage from the recent severe storm. But as it turned out, loads of people came to the substitute location; Temple Plaza in Downtown Danville, on the northwest corner of North Street and Vermilion. Could this be Community Day’s new permanent location? Danville’s Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says; they’ll have to think it over.
AUDIO: Seems to be a good setup today; so we’ll see how it goes, see the feedback that we get, and then examine it for next year.

As she prepared to serve the free food to residents with other aldermen and city personnel, Vice-Mayor Tricia Teague said she also felt good about this year’s move to Temple Plaza.
AUDIO: I’m actually glad it’s down here. Temple Plaza’s kind of like the city square. So; centrally located, easy to get to, so I’m hoping to see a really good turn out.

And as the barbeque, chicken, burgers and sides began to be served; the line was long along North Street. As they were getting everything ready, Mayor Williams also said; from Friday night’s First Friday’s Midsummer Luau downtown; to everything else all over the county this weekend, NO ONE should be complaining about not having places to go to enjoy themselves.
AUDIO: And if you say that you’re bored, that’s on you. Friday night we had First Fridays; Balloons Over Vermilion, Dans games, the Georgetown Fair has started; just a whole bunch of great things. So, we hope that everyone will come on out to Community Day, and join us just for a day of celebration, and focus on what we have in common.
And that Community Day turnout Sunday afternoon at Temple Plaza continued, from 2:30 to 4:30 PM.
