The Danville City Council Public Works Committee has approved plans to apply to the Illinois Housing Development Authority for up to $5,000,000 to be used for fixing up existing homes that are lived in by the home’s owner. Community Development Administrator Logan Cronk says; yes, Danville has eliminated a lot of abandoned structures. Now it’s time to fix some up and save them BEFORE they become abandoned.
AUDIO: We’ve been doing so many demolitions and blight removal in the City of Danville. At some point, we’re going to have to flip the switch. And this is a good funding opportunity for us to start doing some rehabilitations of owner occupied residences.
Cronk says this is a very competitive grant, which comes from federal dollars, based on COVID relief, trickling down to state funds.
