Danville Public Works Director Carl Carpenter has confirmed that following the recent severe storm power outages five new and one old city generators that kept traffic lights going were cut away and stolen by residents who apparently wanted them for their own use.
Carpenter says other alternatives, such as stronger backup batteries in the traffic lights and other ideas, may be a better solution.
AUDIO: There’s other ways to look into different things to keep the backup batteries running. We can put other types of generators out there. There’s also other types of traffic lights out there, some that run on solar. We’re going to research all kinds of things now that this has happened again.
Carpenter says there’s been other examples of selfishness out there; such as people trimming their bushes and putting it out for the city as storm damage pick-up, and others charging seniors to clean up their yards, and putting that out for the city.
