THE FOLLOWING IS A SALVATION ARMY RELEASE
On July 22nd, The Salvation Army will host SERVSafe: Food handling; FREE emergency disaster response training for volunteers who wish to serve Food & Hydration in times of disaster and/or for first responders during nearby fires and other local incidents.
Registration is required to attend this FREE certification course. Those interested in serving with The Salvation Army from Champaign & Vermilion Counties can learn more and sign up through the websites at SAChampaign.org or SAdanville.org.
The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Response Team plays a crucial role in disaster response by offering basic needs to those who may have lost everything when disaster strikes. The most recent local efforts occurred during the recent power outage when The Salvation Army, with the help of more than 70 volunteers, served 330 households with 380 sack lunches and 140 snack bags. More than 500 meals were provided to families and cold beverages and snacks were served to 90 first responders and city workers. These efforts not only helped local families, but also those working tirelessly to restore power.
Individuals, families, service clubs, churches, and/or groups are encouraged to register and partner with the organization to serve as a volunteer when emergencies arise. Volunteers can also help to distribute aid to the homeless on The Canteen Run in Champaign.
Volunteers who complete the required training with satisfaction will receive a National Emergency Disaster Response Certificate, a personalized photo badge, and the confidence of being part of this nationally recognized emergency response team, The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services. Additional classes are offered quarterly for those who wish to elevate their skills in incident management, canteen operations, emotional and spiritual care, and basic first aid / CPR.
To sign up for this free introductory class, contact Melissa at (217) 607-9445 or visit our events pages at sachampaign.org or sadanville.org .
