Coming up on Saturday, August 26th; the family of Jelani Day and the Jelani Day Foundation will be commemorating the two-year anniversary of Jelani Day’s passing by hosting the 2nd Year Memorial All-White Remembrance Dinner. This will be an all-white attire event, and it can be business casual. It will be at 5:30 PM In the Illinois State University Bone Student Center, Ballroom #3.
It was August 24th of 2021 that DHS and ISU graduate Jelani Day disappeared in Bloomington. His car was later discovered along a wooded area in Peru, IL; and two weeks after his disappearance, Day’s body was found in the Illinois River, about two miles from where his car had been located. The investigation into Jelani Day’s death remains active.
Day’s brother D’Andre Day says the foundation continues to be there to promote the awareness of racial injustices for missing people of color; and to assist families that need help getting through disappearances of a loved one, both emotionally and financially. In addition, the foundation provides scholarships as well.
AUDIO: We just gave out a scholarship of $500 this past May to a young lady in Danville High School that’s graduating and attending Indiana State. We’re trying to help better our community; and offer services to support families who have people who are missing of color as well; that went through that similar tragedy as us, so they don’t have to go through the similar things that we experienced going through it.
Tickets to the August 26th event are $50, $25 for students with a 2023 student ID. For tickets, please go to eventbrite and enter the Jelani Day Foundation.
