A new report from the Illinois Department of Employment Security shows the state’s jobless rate for June dropped a tenth of a percent to 4.0 percent. Non-farm payrolls increased by 8,400 in June according to the report.
Both estimates are based on preliminary data provided by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The industry sectors with the largest over-the-month job gains during June included a gain of 5,300 jobs in the Educational and Health Services category…and gains of 2,900 jobs in each of the sectors including Construction, Leisure and Hospitality, and Government.
The industry sectors where the number of jobs declined in June included a loss of 5,400 jobs in the Professional and Business Services category…2,000 manufacturing jobs that were lost, and a 2,000 job reduction in the Trade, Transportation and Utilities category.
There were 258,100 Illinois workers listed as being unemployed during June. The figure was at its lowest level since the onset of the pandemic.
