A new Danville Area Community College Decennial Committee on Local Government Efficiency held its inaugural meeting Thursday evening (July 20, 2023). DACC Board President David Harby outlined the committee’s charge….
{AUDIO: ‘’We’re charged to study some topic of our choice for efficiencies that we can enact or improve on. And the committee is our (DACC) Board, our CEO – Dr. Nacco – and then two members of the community. Which I think we have two powerful, great community members – Mrs. Cybil Mervis and Mr. Dave Kietzman.”]
During discussion, some committee members said there were a lot of positive things at DACC during the pandemic – even though enrollment dropped. Technology, infrastructure, and security all saw improvements – and now enrollment is rising. It was suggested that perhaps the college needs to do more to help students who are still dealing with emotional issues from the pandemic. But Harby says the college needs to remain focused…
{AUDIO: ‘’We need to be efficient with the resources that we have, and how we deliver the resources. And we need to make sure that the citizens, the students, the faculty members are being served properly in the most efficient way possible. And that’s what this group will do.’’}
The committee was formed because of new state mandates. They require each governmental unit to form a committee to study local efficiencies and report recommendations to the county board every 10 years. There was no date set for the committee’s next meeting but it is required to meet at least three times.
