ABOVE: Hunter LaFave speaks to the Danville City Council about additional inspections of rental homes for the health benefit of tenants.
The Danville City Council is in agreement with a couple asking that more regulations be put in place; allowing the city to regulate and investigate the IAQ, indoor air quality, inside a rented home. Hunter LaFave and Hannah Clingan had moved into a three bedroom, one-and-a-half bath rental in the 200 block of Ridgeview. But immediately, they became sick.
AUDIO: I had a really, really bad headache; dizzy, confused. Nauseous with dry heaving. (I’d say by the second day, we felt very, very sick.) I went through 40 rounds of chemotherapy and 28 rounds of radiation. I don’t go back to hospitals unless it’s really bad. I had to go twice.

The problem was believed to be bad paint inside the house. But right now the City of Danville does not investigate for that, nor do they investigate for mold. But a lot of constructive discussion among Mayor Rickey Willaims, Jr; Council members, and Corporation Counsel James Simon during the Tuesday (Aug 1st) night Danville City Council meeting showed a desire to change that. Mayor Williams says he believes this can get done, the right way.
AUDIO: In order to take care of our citizens we have to have a law in place. If there’s not a law in place, then we can’t intervene because it would be unlawful. So we will be working to update some of our amendments on these issues.
LaFave and Clingan said they were very pleased with the City Council’s reaction, and believe they will be taking action. For now, although their It’s in Your Head mental, emotional, and physical wellness business is active in the Danville area and schools, LaFave and Clingan are living in Urbana.
