Prior to the rain’s arrival late Saturday (Aug 5th)morning, the annual Illinois American Legion Golf Tournament in Danville got off to its start with the annual pageantry at Harrison Park Golf Course. State Rep Mike Marron says that Danville, with its reputation for appreciating those that have served, certainly deserves this event. And although he may be retiring from the Illinois House after this term, Marron says his support of this event will always be strong.
AUDIO: Danville has earned a very good reputation as being one of the most Veteran friendly communities in the entire nation. It’s great to see Veterans come from all over the state, here this weekend to participate in this. And I’ll be here, and be supportive, for a long time.
Danville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jeanie Cooke says there is much local pride in being the permanent home of the State American Legion Tournament.

The Vermilion County Farm Bureau’s Tom Fricke served as emcee for the opening ceremonies on Saturday morning.
