The Labor Day Parade in Danville brought out all sorts of participation, as it does every year. But local labor leaders were there to remind everyone of the reason for this annual event.
Aaron Goodrum from International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 538 said it’s important to remember what the labor movement has given workers, and who made it all possible.
AUDIO: Well we have to remember where we came from; everything that the ones before us have fought for, as far as labor standards and conditions for everything. So, to remember everything that they fought for, and where we are at now.
David Marxmiller from Teamsters Local 26 agrees.
AUDIO: The labor movement brought you the weekends, 40 hour week, time-and-a-half after eight, time-and-a-half after 40, safety in the workplace. It’s about having a voice.
The Danville Labor Day Parade began at 9 AM Monday morning.
