Some beautiful fall weather is coming this weekend, and one place to enjoy it will be the Dragonfly Barn at Sleepy Creek Vineyard Saturday evening. Crosspoint Human Services will be having their Harvest Feast in Wine Country Fundraiser. As Vice-President of Human Resources Lisa Fudge explains, Crosspoint Human Services receives some funding for their numerous programs, such as their domestic violence shelter; but additional funding is really needed to make all of their programs the best they can be. Fudge offered a specific example.
AUDIO: We have the only Community Day Services program in the area. And that is where individuals with intellectual disabilities, or some mental illness diagnosis, come in for day training. They learn skills. We actually have a classroom type setting, so they learn the daily skills, and different things to offer them more independence. We only receive funding for five hours a day, and the rest of that is basically up to us.
This is where you can help. Doors open at 6:30 PM Saturday, dinner is at 7:15, and activities for the evening will include a silent auction and trivia competition. Tickets are $50 each; just call 217-442-3200; or go to crosspointhumanservices.org.
