We have a wonderful autumn forecast for this weekend, so why not give the 2023 River to Rail Ride a try. All proceeds from this Saturday’s cycling event will benefit the Kickapoo Rail Trail. One of the participants; and yes, he’ll be taking the longest route of the full 63 miles, will be D102’s Tommy B.
AUDIO: Well the Kickapoo Rail Trail is very special. I just love the trail, and the fact that it gets people outdoors. Every time I’m on that trail there’s someone using it; walking it, running it, and just enjoying nature or out there cycling with me. But it’s just something I have always loved since they started building it. I use it as often as I can, and it’s just something I think is a great asset to our local community.
In addition to the 63 mile cycling ride; there’s also the 37 mile trip, the 30 mile out and back trip, and then the 7 1/2 mile option where you’re able to stay within Kennekuk County Park. Laura Danzl, from the Vermilion County Conservation District, says the cost to participate is anywhere between $10 and $45, depending upon your age and which option you choose.
AUDIO: And we have all of the maps and logistics all laid out, to where they just need to follow signs on the road to get them to where they need to go. And it’s a great way to get some exercise, and see the beautiful Vermilion County countryside, all while supporting the Kickapoo Rail Trail.
