Danville Youth Hockey is having an open house this Saturday (Sept 16th) at the David S. Palmer Arena. Interested players can register starting at 5 PM, and time on the ice will be available 5:30 to 6:30. Danville Youth Hockey Board president Alex Bates says coaches, team administrators, and experienced players will all be there to answer questions. But the main purpose is getting new players involved. Bates says you’d be surprised how affordable hockey can be, and they have a special “rental equipment program” for new players.

AUDIO: I think when people hear about hockey they’re kind of standoffish because they worry about the expense. But we make it very affordable for families. We can provide equipment to new players. They can come try it out. If they enroll in a learn to play session, they can try it out for four weeks. And, you know, if it’s for them, we’ll go from there.

Danville Youth Hockey is for players age four through high school. And Bates says, yes, four-year-olds can learn quickly.
AUDIO: So if you have a four-year-old that you think is real busy and active and wants to get out there on the ice; we’ve taught countless four-year-olds how to skate. So, I know that seems young, but they’ll take to it. Parents will notice real quick in about a week or two that their kid’s already skating, and it’s real exciting for the parents to see that.
That’s 5 to 7 PM this Saturday at the Palmer Arena. You can enter through the public skate entrance along Main Street.
