At the conclusion of an audit report concerning the 2021-22 Fiscal Year at Tuesday night’s (Sept 19th) Danville City Council meeting, Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr stated that over the last three years, the city’s net financial position has improved by over $23 million. The mayor says holding the line on spending and making sure investments are made wisely were two big factors.

Another piece of good news for the city, brought up by Corporation Council James Simon, was that time had passed for Mervis Industries to appeal the recent court decision declaring a victory for the city, in the lawsuit filed by Mervis Industries concerning the zoning change the city made for the arrival of the Golden Nugget casino. Mayor Williams says, it’s great to finally cross the finish line on this.

In addition, the Danville City Council will be able to receive a $983,000-plus grant for planned brownfield cleanup efforts on the southeast corner of Vermilion and Fairchild, with an amendment to the city budget. (Please see original story below.)
