The Danville District 118 School Board has approved the new 2023-2024 school year budget. Chief School Business Officer Narcissus Rankin says the revenues came in at $124 million, while the expenditures came it at $129.4 million. Rankin says the five million dollar gap was expected, and is no surprise, because of all the remodeling and infrastructure projects going on the last couple years, led by Director of Building and Grounds Skip Truex. Just one example would be the $8.9 million renovation of the Danville High School 1972 addition.
AUDIO: So Mr. Truex asked the board, it was more than two years ago, but he talked about all the things that he wanted to start. And so these projects are some of the things that he was working on. We’re watching, so yes; and projects are coming along really well, and they are coming within the approximate costs.
Meanwhile, the District 118 Board approved the expansion within the District of the It’s In Your Head program, offered by co-coordinators of the program Hunter LaFave and Heather Clingan. Clingan says the stress mitigation tools they have been employing during faculty sessions, will now be offered to students.
AUDIO: And a lot of what we’re doing, it’s called “mindfulness based stress reduction.” And it is really making waves in the psychology scene, and the wellness and wellbeing scene; as far as providing a means for people to, again, move the bar on a lot of focus and attention issues.
The cost of the program this school year will be up to $123,000 at Danville High School, and up to a combined $151,200 at the K through 8 schools. It will be paid with school COVID relief ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funding.
