Three people managed to escape Sunday morning after flames erupted in a home just north of Danville. Donna Stanley says she discovered heavy smoke in her home at 336 Poland Road when she awoke. She says a 54-year-old male life-long friend managed to crawl out of the home. And Stanley’s 32-year-old God son also escaped, even though he was in the basement when the fire erupted.
Bismarck firefighters found the home partially engulfed in flames when they arrived on the scene shortly before 10:00 a.m. The 54-year-old male who had been in the house was transported to a hospital to be checked for smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported.
The home was heavily damaged despite the efforts of firefighters from multiple departments. Units that helped Bismarck firefighters on the scene included:
- The Lynch Area Fire Protection District
- Kickapoo Fire Protection District
- Hoopeston Fire Department
- Blue Grass volunteer firefighters
- Tilton Fire Department
- Perrysville, Indiana Fire Department
- Arrow Ambulance
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
