The Champaign County Coroner’s Office has reported that 74-year-old William J. Marietta of Danville was pronounced deceased at 8:52 PM; Sunday, October 8th at Carle Foundation Hospital.
Marietta had been injured in a September 26th evening accident in Danville, at the intersection of Gilbert and Voorhees. A Danville Police Department release following the accident had stated officers noticed, while on patrol near Bowman and Fairchild, a Ford Escape being driven by a 22-year-old Danville man whom the officers knew was driving on a revoked license.
While attempting to stop the driver of the Escape, officers observed the driver appear to throw a handgun out of the window. The driver then continued driving westbound on Voorhees, ignoring the stop light at Voorhees and Vermilion. The Escape then struck a Chevrolet Silverado, around 6:30 PM on September 26th, with Marietta inside it. Also inside the Silverado was a 33-year-old Danville man.
The investigation into the incident by the Illinois State Police, Danville Police Department, and Champaign County Coroner’s Office.
