(ABOVE) DACC Video Production Adjunct Professor Pete Barrett recently appeared with Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s “Community Connection.”
This coming weekend will be Danville Area Community College’s presentation of To Kill a Mockingbird; with the talents of students, staff, and local theater veterans; and under the direction of Angie Mansfield. DACC Video Production Adjunct Professor Pete Barrett, who is playing Atticus Finch, told Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection program that he actually took a break from theater from about 1975 to 2001, when his television career first began. But along the way, something changed that.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Eventually, as my daughter grew up, got to be old enough to do shows, she started asking me to join shows with her. I was asked to be in a play in Kansas City, where I lived for a couple decades, I did a show in 2001 called Maim. And I started doing two or three shows a year from that year to this year.
Cast members of DACC’s presentation of To Kill a Mockingbird pose during a recent DACC Board of Trustees meeting.
As so many are aware, To Kill a Mockingbird can be a tough show to pull off because it takes place in the racist south of 1935. As Barrett explains; yes, they took out some of the harsh language in the script; but some of it had to stay in to tell the story.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: But we retained a few, because you need to set up; “this is the one side of the deal and it’s awful, and here is the way we’re trying to go.” So you had to set up the “ying” before you could do the “yang.” So, we retained some of the words; and there will be substantial disclaimers throughout the whole process of buying the tickets.
And speaking of tickets, they’ll be available at the door of the DACC Bremer Center, or go to www.Danville.Jaguars.com.
The shows are Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st at 7 PM, and Sunday the 22nd at 2 PM.
