It’s been forty-seven years since a Danville Firefighter died in the line of duty. On Saturday, firefighters remembered Lt. Gene Anderson and four other firefighters who have died over the years with a special service at Station 3….
In addition to Lt. Anderson, those honored during the service were Albert Holmes and Albert Shanks, who both died fighting a downtown blaze in February of 1915, William Schroeder, who was killed in November of 1936, Leo ‘Buck’ White, who died in January of 1941, and Lieutenant Gene Anderson, who died in August of 1976.
Firefighters in full dress uniforms conducted the ceremony as numerous Danville Fire Department retirees and others looked on….

The ringing of the bell signaled the end of duties for those who were called home. Saturday’s ceremony also included Taps, and music from a bagpipe honoring the fallen….
The service is conducted annually to honor those who lost their lives serving the city.
